First visit to IVI

Requesting the first visit

You can request a visit in any of our clinics. Our Patient Assistance staff will take down your personal details, as well as a brief summary of the reason for your first visit (any previous treatment, or tests carried out if you have them) so that the doctor can prepare your consultation. They will then give you a time and date for an appointment. Should you know the name of any specific doctor, you may request an appointment with them.

Reception at your IVI clinic

Two days before your first visit, you will receive a call from our Patient Assistance staff to confirm the day and time of your appointment.

Once you are in the centre, and before going to consultation, we will make a photocopy of your ID, we will take down your particulars for your Medical Record, and we will hand you the centre’s documentation, which consists of the Clinic’s Presentation Manual and the LOPD (Data Protection Law) Authorisation Form.

Medical consultation

  • Evaluation and diagnosis: Consultation with the doctor begins with a review of your medical record, reproduction antecedents, and treatment you have undergone or are receiving at the time of the visit. If you have reports or results from your previous medical record, it is advisable for you to bring them on this first visit. Once your medical record has been looked through, the doctor can determine what additional tests she/he considers recommending, as well as the need for a gynaecological exploration. The doctor will inform you at all times about the purpose for each one of the tests.
  • Orientation towards the treatment: at this point, if the doctor has all the information necessary, she/he will specify the treatment to be carried out, the medication necessary, and the possible complementary tests to the treatment. In addition, in the same interview you will receive the consent forms. It is possible that at some time the doctor may need to have some results before specifying the treatment. In this case, the definitive treatment will be specified on the second visit.

Spermiogram

To complete the diagnosis, it may possibly be necessary to evaluate the man’s semen. The seminogram (or spermiogram) allows us to study the concentration of spermatozoa, their motility (mobility), and their morphology, thereby detecting possible alterations. To carry out this study, it is also necessary to have a prior serological analysis. You can carry out all of these tests at any of our IVI centres.

Cost Estimate

On completing the consultation with the doctor, in the Patient Assistance Department they will give you a detailed budget that will include the procedures pertaining to the proposed treatment and the prior analyses and tests that the doctor requests of you.
